The members of High Cliff Ridge Riders would like to apologize to the handful of people that showed up for our Aug. 8 Youth Show. The show bill did state “Rain or Shine.” It wasn’t the rain that caused us to cancel; it was the state of the arena. It had rained almost 3 inches the night before. The sand-clay mixture was a sea of goo and was definitely not a safe place to run horses. We know a lot of young children who have been practicing and were excited for their first show. However, the conditions just were not safe. Since this is a learning experience for young riders, we felt it would have been very unfortunate for a horse to slip and fall, and parents leading tiny tots would not have like the 6 inches of mud.
The members were disappointed as well. We had a great turnout of help, who hauled all the equipment, food, etc. up to the arena by 7 a.m. By 8:30 a.m., only two riders showed up.
We have rescheduled the Youth Show for the Saturday before our September Open Show. That will be a very busy weekend for the Ridge Riders.
If you are traveling some distance and would like to ride in both shows, I can help you find a place to park your trailer and stall your horses. High Cliff State Park does not allow overnight camping. Call me at 920-989-1955 or contact me at HiCliffHorse@tds.net.
Again, we apologize for any inconvenience.
