What an awesome Memorial Day camping weekend! Members Steve and Pat Bevers invited everyone in the club to camp at their property near Wabeno. We had 26 people, 21 horses, 15 dogs and perfect weather!
The Bevers have built a beautiful building on their property, and Sunday morning we all gathered and cooked a huge potluck breakfast. The rest of the meals we cooked around the campfire.
Saturday morning many of the members helped the Bevers plant corn and turnips for the deer population. Besides horseback riding, the family uses the property for hunting and snowmobiling.
It was so relaxing not to have rules. The dogs went wild. It was a fantastic parade of breeds.
We all thank the Bevers for a memorable weekend. And we didn’t even have any wrecks or crashes.
At the last Ridge Riders meeting, we welcomed Dan and Sharon West as new members.
We also made plans for our upcoming shows. We are still working on the warm-up area revision at the Sherwood Arena. Stephanie Halback brought two different designs. Whichever one we use, we will need an extra gate person in the warm-up area to let riders in and out of the “in the hole” area. Our goal is to make the participants as safe as possible.
Our trophies this year will be really different. Joann Fink designed a flashy horse head, and Steve Bevers was in charge of getting it produced. The trophies will be stainless steel set in a wood block.
Stephanie also devised a new sign-up sheet for the shows. It will be one sheet with all the classes on it, so participants only have to fill out information one time and then check which classes they want to run.
We are also thinking of some new and different classes, so we have high hopes our two shows will be fun for everyone who attends.
The club is having a potluck ride on Saturday, July 11, at High Cliff State Park. We will eat at 6 p.m. People can ride before and/or after dinner.
Members also discussed setting up a Web site for the Ridge Riders. Everyone thought it was a great idea, so we have members working on making it a reality.
Our next meeting will be 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, at the Sherwood Arena. We will be finalizing plans for the youth show and the open show, and making sure the arena and announcer’s stand are in good shape.
If you like to trail ride, we invite you to join. There is a Medora, N.D., trip planned for August, and a South Dakota trip is in the works for September. If you would like more information, contact President Chad Leightley at 920-716-0936 or Secretary Linda Rue at 920-759-7320.
